What can you use the app for?

The name says it all on the Design:Related website. Users can come here to find all things related to the topic of design. The purpose of the site is to help inspire creative minds while providing a handy resource for answering questions and gathering information. There are social elements as well through the Design:Related community. Important design related events are covered as well as helpful articles and internet resources that design professionals and hobbyists can benefit from.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

The Design:Related team may not be enormous, but it is effective. The website is headed by the three founders, CEO Matt Sung, Editorial and Design Director Karen Horton, and Peter Sung. Other major participants in the organization include Software Engineer John Bresnik and writing contributors Sean Hartman and Lyndsay Skeegan. The idea behind Design:Related was to create an all in one resource for those interested or working in design to share information and learn more about the industry.

What are the differences to other apps?

Design:Related may have an attractive appearance, but he site steps aside and lets the community take center stage. Along side helpful content and unique resources, users are showcased through their portfolios. Amazing design creations can be browsed, allowing users a new way to get the word out about what they do. The creative audience aspect of Design:Related makes it much more than a simple library of design resources. It breathes life into the community and gives others the chance to enjoy the spotlight and provide inspiration to those who see their work.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Design:Related features an eye-catching design, with bright blue headers and a smooth logo style. The site features an easy to navigate layout that makes it easy to get to each feature. Advertisements can be seen as well, however they are not excessive and most feature a style that compliments the atmosphere of Design:Related. User can find what they are looking for using the navigation bar or the search function found right on the homepage.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can sign up for a Design:Related account by clicking the blue “Sign Up” button along the left hand side of the homepage. The button is very easy to find, and boasts a “simple, quick and free” registration process. Users are asked to choose an individual, company, or organization account type then enter a first and last name, date of birth, user type, and area of focus or interest. The bottom of the registration form requests all the basics: a username, email address and password. After entering the Capcha code and checking the terms of service agreement box, new users can beef up their profiles with images, location details, and a URL.

What does it cost to use the application?

Design:Related is accessible at no cost to the user. Anyone can make an account and start exploring the resources found on the site. It is important to note that Design:Related is currently in a beta status. When the site officially leaves beta, a premium account may be added. There is currently no indication of that change being made at this point.

Who would you recommend the application to?

There are two types of people that can really get into Design:Related. The first is obvious: the design professionals and hobbyists. Anyone with a passion for design, whether it is a career or simply a fun thing to do, can enjoy the site. The other group consists of individuals who have an appreciation for creativity and art. Any user can visit the site and browse portfolios to discover the amazing creations of the Design:Related community. The free membership also makes casual browsing more appealing for any user, regardless of what industry they are in.
